who we are
Improving lives. Developing life skills. Empowering individuals. Creating beautiful products.
The Stung Treng Women's Development Center, located in Sre Po village in Stung Treng province, focuses on developing life skills for vulnerable people, especially women. We assist them in breaking the cycle of poverty and illiteracy. Established in 2001 by a Cambodian couple, the centre hopes to meet the challenges faced by the local community such as poverty, limited access to education, few employment prospects and geographical remoteness. Between 2002 and 2005 our programs have benefited over 280 women, 100 children and 20 families from the village surrounding our center.
what we do
One of our project outcomes is Mekong Blue - a silk weaving centre producing a range of silk products, often regarded as some of the finest in Cambodia. The first weaving center opened in 2003 employing nearly 30 women, with 18 looms, 7 sewing machines and a dye center. Based on the success, we opened a second center in 2005 which is currently a training center.
Our attention to detail has been rewarded with the UNESCO Seal of Excellence for scarves in both 2004 and 2005. Our silk is known for its durable solid weave, both traditional and modern design and color use.
