who we are

Reaching Out Handicrafts

Helping disabled people break the cycle of poverty

Reaching Out is a unique craft store, available both online and offline, owned, operated and whose products are made by artisans with physical disabilities. Set up in 2000 by a group of disabled people, we are located in the historic center of Hoi An and sell an attractive range of products that are not found elsewhere.

what we do

We train and employ disabled people and allow them the flexibility of working in the store and attached workshop or from the comfort of their own homes. We are firm believers of fair trade and fair wage - our artisans receive about 35% more than the average wage - and we have provided free vocational training to more than 30 locals such as hearing, speech and mobility-impaired artisans and victims of polio and Down Syndrome.

Handicrafts made by our artisans are sold on a commercial basis and we do not rely on donations to survive. Our mission is to enable disabled artisans to break the cycle of poverty and exclusion and become self-sufficient by learning marketable skills and work in a supportive environment.

Mr. Le Nguyen Binh, wheelchair-bound since the age of 15, founded our enterprise. In addition to Reaching Out, he has also established a self-help group for disabled people and a computer training center, both under the name of Tien Bo (Progress).
