Tonle Tourism Training Center

Providing employable skills to disadvantaged youths in Stung Treng

The Tonlé Tourism Training Centre is the main project of the Swiss non-profit organization Tourism for Help. We work to reduce poverty through sustainable tourism and our aim is to provide disadvantaged youth with training in tourism-related fields so they can gain employable skills. Additionally, we cultivate their abilities to use transferable skills such as autonomy and initiative that can be applied in any profession.

what we do

Our trainees receive hands-on experience working in the Tonlé guesthouse, a traditional two-storey Khmer house with three nicely decorated rooms equipped with fans and a terrace that offers a splendid view of the Sekong River. During the one-year course, trainees receive English and computer lessons and learn different hospitality skills such as cooking, housekeeping and service. We encourage guests to interact with trainees, offering an interesting and educational cultural exchange.

The centre also cooperates with the local organization Mekong Blue, where visitors can learn the silk production process, observe traditional Khmer silk weaving and enjoy traditional dishes in the restaurant.

Tourism for Help hopes to build a bigger centre next to Mekong Blue that will allow us to train and employ more young people and women and encourage visitors to extend their stay.
